Court rules for Veoh in UMG suit
Obtaining a four-year legal fight between Universal Group and video-talking about site Veoh with a likely close, an appeals court in Pasadena today upheld a young decision for Veoh, which was punished by UMG for copyright breach in 2007. A federal district court ruled in Veoh's favor this past year, rejecting UMG's claims that Veoh which is traders were accountable for UMG-copyrighted material released towards the site by clients. Both court rulings learned that the web site was protected beneath the Digital Millennium Copyright Act's safe-harbor provision, tallying that Veoh had made good belief efforts to look at content also to remove infringing material upon request from copyright entrepreneurs. Veoh, which was launched in beta form in 2006 and loved early investment from former Disney topper Michael Eisner, continued to be round the fringe of personal personal bankruptcy by February of 2010, with then-Boss Dmitry Shapiro stating the ongoing legal fight just like a adding factor. It absolutely was soon after that acquired by Israeli company Qlipso. Though only briefly reported inside the ruling, the UMG-Veoh situation bears numerous parallels to have an breach suit filed by Viacom against YouTube, in which a federal court ruled for YouTube this season for similar reasons, placing the duty on copyright entrepreneurs to see host sites of infringing material. Viacom's advantage of that decision is presently pending. Contact the number newsroom at news@variety.com

Top Chef's Dakota: I Was Hurt By Nyesha's Comments
Dakota Practice makes perfect - but not on Top Chef. Dakota Weiss' trial run to cook venison went off without a hitch, but when it came time to cook for the elimination challenge, all four racks wound up undercooked, leading to her and teammate Nyesha Arrington's eliminations. "It was such a shock because our trial run went perfectly," Dakota tells TVGuide.com. "And of course the racks that counted did not come out perfectly. But that's what happens sometimes." So what went wrong? Find out below.Top Chef's Nyesha: I don't know how our dish ended up undercookedDid you think you guys were screwed once you saw the venison was raw?Dakota: Yeah. I thought we were goners. I did think for a split second at Judges' Table that we did have a chance. I was so caught up in my own drama and the venison being undercooked - but at the same time the dish was really, really nice - that I wasn't really aware of all the other problems with the other dishes. I was like, "Huh. We may have a chance." But ultimately, it was about [cooking] the game and we didn't do that! What went wrong? Was it the oven? Did you not time yourself?Dakota: It's hard to say. Both Nyesha and I were super cautious. We did a trial run on our extra rack of venison that we had. We seared it through in the oven and timed it down to the very last second. We cut it open and it was gorgeous. When it came down to doing the one for the competition, we were confident it would be fine. But, you know, there are lots of reasons for why it went wrong. There was a lot of opening of the ovens, they were tied really tight, so maybe they were more dense inside and took a little bit longer to cook. Who knows?Did the trial run take up too much time?Dakota: Oh, no! That's what was funny because when we were sitting in the stew room, all the other chefs were saying, "Gosh, you guys looked so relaxed and calm." We had a plan. We had everything timed down to plating and time definitely wasn't an issue. It just took longer for it to cook for whatever reason. Top Chef's Whitney: My thought process was offYou didn't have a back-up plan in case that happened?Dakota: There was no back-up plan. We just felt really good about it after the trial run. I know once I cut into that first rack, I grabbed Nyesha immediately because I thought she should know that they weren't looking good. Your immediate reaction is to put it on the stove, but when you're working in an extremely small kitchen with six burners, it was definitely hard to get on that stove because everybody else is trying to get their stuff going. Space was an issue. I had literally one burner and four racks to cook. Were you able to cook any of them through?Dakota: We were able to cook two of them. It was very rough all around as far as the equipment we had to work with. I had one burner and one sautee pan to put two racks in and was just basting, basting, basting. It came down to the point where we had to plate, so I had to pull them. I had to make that choice: Do we serve them rare venison or nothing at all? How awkward was it at Judges Table when Heather went off on Beverly?Dakota: Yeah. I would rather eat nails for breakfast than ever have to deal with that again. [Laughs] It was painfully uncomfortable. Every person who's there is very talented; there's no doubt about that. But you can't put that many personalities in one kitchen and expect everyone to get along. It's impossible. Heather and Beverly are both very successful chefs, but their personalities clash and they deal with emotions differently. They deal with their staff differently. I mean, it was going to happen eventually with somebody and it just happened to be Beverly and Heather.Did you think it was weird she brought up last week's challenge? Everyone knows the judges don't care about what happened even earlier that day.Dakota: Yeah, absolutely. We were all baffled ourselves. A few people were like, "Get over it! This is a new day, new challenge." The fact that they got paired together - we all knew that this isn't going to go well. [Laughs] It was very strange, very awkward. I'm definitely glad it's over. I think everybody felt they were either going to hit it out of the ballpark because they'd be trying to do their best or they're just going to completely let their personalities get in the way of their cooking. Top Chef's Chuy: I knew I was screwedYou obviously felt guilty about taking Nyesha down with you. Did you guys go into it understanding that something like that could happen?Dakota: We definitely did. Of course I felt super guilty. The whole situation was just awful. But at the same time, it was a team challenge. Being that the focus was the venison, perhaps both of us should've worked on it. I was a little slighted and a little hurt to hear her comments - that that was all I had to do and I messed up. It was like, "Yeah, but hey, we're a team." And I didn't just work on the venison. I did other things that the people loved, like the gratin. I don't know. I feel guilty, but I have to remind myself that I can't sit here and dwell on it, and it was a team effort. We just didn't work well as a team in the end. It was a bad team effort. What are you up to now?Dakota: I'm in Christmas party hell! [Laughs] ... Everybody's having their Christmas parties and they want to do it here [at W Los Angeles], which is fabulous and I'm super excited about that. So just working and more Christmas parties.

Meryl Streep provides her political platform.
A movie premiere is certainly a strange place to produce a political career, but that didn't stop "The Iron Lady" helmer Phyllida Lloyd from throwing her weight behind Meryl Streep. "Meryl for leader!" Lloyd excited just before the film's Gotham premiere Tuesday within the Ziegfeld.Streep, who nailed Britain's polarizing Pm Margaret Thatcher, mentioned she favors to order her political ambitions for your bigscreen. "Over my dead body!" she quipped of Lloyd's suggestion. Still, if she did choose to possess a run at office, the decorated thesp features a unique platform: "My platform might be heels. I'd work on platform heels. They're much better than stilettos."Film author Abi Morgan made clear the film's appeal, particularly for your preem's female-heavy crowd, which incorporated trailblazers Billie Jean King, Gloria Steinem and Christiane Amanpour."Meryl which i laugh and say it's 'King Lear' for ladies,Inch mentioned Morgan. Exclusive: Wants A Existence Clip
Glimpse at Carol Morley's docudramaIt may not appear like the most Christmasy of tales, there's however something so profoundly moving about Wants A Existence that individuals required to share a clip within the docudrama/drama-documentary together with you this chilled e'en.Carol Morley's film carried out to rapt audiences within the LondonFilm Festival earlier around which is ongoing to create buzz. It notifies the story of Joyce Vincent, a vivacious aspirant singer who died in their bedsit in North London in 2003. Tragic while not unusual, it may seem, besides the truth that no-one observed. For three years.Morley's film seeks the get through to the bottom in the story, mixing reconstructions of Vincent's existence and speaking-mind interviews along with her nearest and dearest. Well, relatively nearest and dearest.Showing up in this particular clip are her ex-boyfriend Martin Lister and Lynne Featherstone, Megapixel for Hornsey and Wood Eco-friendly, who also attempted to access the feet from the story only to be rebuffed by everyone within the police for the utilities companies who ongoing to supply Joyce's flat throughout that time. Existence PosterPlaying Vincent is Zawe Ashton, also called the perfectly foul-mouthed Vod in Fresh Meat. Catch her heralded performance when Wants A Existence arrives on December 16.

An Ambiguous "Error" Hits The X Factor
We are lower towards the final five, and tonight the participants is going to be singing two tunes each, and also the first needs to be considered a dance number. Host Steve Johnson foreshadows a twist later within the episode. The Jackson kids were here a week ago, meaning it needs to be Madonna's daughter Lourdes now, right? Get excited! To begin the evening, Melanie assumes a dance remix of Adele's "You,Inch making me question... is the very first time we are hearing her do Adele? Since it type of appears just like a no-brainer artist on her. Melanie's voice is perfect per usual, however the back-up ballroom dancers robots and pyrotechnics demonstrated to become a little annoying. "You looked and seemed such as the rock star diva that you're tonight," states Nicole. Next, Marcus Canty does Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody (Love Me Better)," but for the second time today, the idol judges are place-up with the song choice. While everyone knows he does not possess the most powerful voice within the competition, Marcus is actually entering their own if this involves performance-quality. He's perhaps probably the most exciting someone to watch on stage within the competition. "I must state that would be a very, excellent performance. You returned strong," states Simon. Rachel Crowe sings B.O.B.'s "Nothin' you,Inch even though I believe Simon had the best idea with selecting something youthful, it had not been the very best we have seen from her. Paula states, "You're just superbly courageous. Your vocal depth goes beyond all decades. You nailed it, and I am so pleased.Inch Next we now have Josh Krajcik. It will likely be interesting to determine how he handles this genre, since there is no doubt he's could not be further from the dance music artist. Within an unusual and unpredicted move, he sings Beyonce! And (for me) it's awesome! I did not think Nicole been with them in her own. The song, "We Found Love," isn't just current and relevant, however it gave Josh an chance to showcase his voice in different ways than we have seen. Apparently, I viewed another performance compared to idol judges. "I possibly could never really help you carrying this out song. And So I did not purchase it,Inch states LA. You had been great like a singer, however i did not buy that song." Simon concurs, and jams Nicole's song choice. Rounding the top 5, Chris Rene assumes another Beyonce hit (that one, her collaboration with T.I. "Live Your Existence") however it was shaky and unimpressive. He is doing the half-singing/half-rapping factor he always does, while gliding over the stage with what made an appearance to become a small-treadmill. The only real word I'm able to think about to explain the performance is "not-special." However the idol judges did not appear in your thoughts it. They are playing nice today typically. "I am not gonna say you are the very best singer because you are not," states Simon. "But being an overall potential recording artist... I believe you do brilliant." We are in the midway point when Steve discloses the twist! "There is a mistake in communication using the song choices here on the program, so we have needed to slowly move the Pepsi Challenge tunes to in a few days.Inch (The performers were said to be carrying out tunes selected through the audiences tonight). The crowd launches a unanimous gasp. They boo. The horror! Rather, the participants will sing an audio lesson that they have selected - but they have only had one evening to organize because everybody just discovered last evening. Which would be to state that someone in production realllllly messed up, and today they have been fired. Steve alerts that given that they haven't had enough time to organize, pressure at this time is incredible. (By he means, "They are likely to be tragic, so bear around.Inch) Next fantastic build-up, I can not wait for a next five performances! How about you? We are beginning by helping cover their Melanie again, and fortunately she decided on a song ("Whenever You Believe") that meets her very well. She can actually don' wrong if this involves a Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston number. Melanie looks stunning, the backdrop shenanigans are minimal, and overall it had been a high-notch performance on her. "You actually considered that last evening also it was so good?Inch states LA. "Which was unbelievable." Marcus sings "An Audio Lesson for you personally,Inch that is certainly a departure for him. It is a soulful performance - not whatsoever what we should would expect in the guy that has become well known for gyrating back-up ballroom dancers and doing flicks on stage. It had not been the very best vocally, however it was much better than I figured he was able to. "Appreciate telling all of us why we fell deeply in love with you from the beginning,Inch states Nicole. "You help remind me of the youthful Al Eco-friendly. Which was beautiful." Rachel's choice, "Music and Me," by Michael Jackson, could not happen to be more off-target on her. It felt old, boring, and to be honest, it put me to rest. There's not really anything else to say of it. "I really like that you simply selected that song on your own,Inch states LA. "How well you see for you personally is really inspiring." Which essentially means he did not possess the heart to inform her how terrible it had been. Josh Krajcik, however, does an incredible rendition of "Something" through the Beatles. Clearly being an older contestant, he's a much better knowledge of themself being an artist. Still it wasn't my personal favorite performance of his, however it was an undeniably good song choice. "In comparison towards the first song I believe it was an enormous improvement," Simon informs him. "I believe whenever you watch it back you looked really insane midway through it. Much like your eyes were moving." Co-sign. The final artist from the evening is Chris Rene, that has elected to sing an authentic song tonight. Are you able to say Dangerous? It's most likely only the guitar, but does he look hot tonight or what? Much i'm happy to report, I like the performance. No, really - I really like it. The song includes a appealing Jason Mraz-like quality into it, also it reminds us that there are more to him compared to half-rapper/half-singer dude. "The planet works in mysterious ways, Chris. Had that glitch not happened, you would not happen to be singing this song," states Paula. "This is exactly what I have been awaiting. God appreciate it.Inch Simon calls the song a stroke of genius. This performance may have just single-handedly saved him from elimination tomorrow. Exactly what a confusing evening it was! What have you think? Was Chris's original song the standout from the evening? Who's going home tomorrow? Weigh in below! show less

Estranged from his wife and child and started from his home, he in some way will get around the wrong finish of the chase which involves stolen cars and bags of loot. The script is as simple as Richard Taylor, who is probably the same Richard Taylor who authored the bounty-hunting revenge western The Storm, which made the Black List last year (exactly the same year as thirty seconds Or FewerLess). "O.T. is simply a guy who makes a person wrong decision and finds themself swept up within an remarkable situation," Taylor states."This is an very entertaining, high-octane ride," states producer Daniel Grodnik, who's also behind the potential future Schwarzenegger vehicle Cry Macho. Another Prometheus Picture Hits The Internet
Permit the Alien conjecturing begin!Particulars on Ridley Scott's approaching sci-fi (and purported Alien prequel) Prometheus are actually couple of in number, however Entertainment Weekly have fresh images and particulars from Scott's set.Boasting the acting talents of Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce, Ben Promote and Michael Fassbender (becoming an android), the castlist alone might be enough to acquire people needing to give consideration, but because it is within the guy who introduced us the first Alien, fans are conjecturing their keyboards off trying to attract links involving the much-loved franchise which new sci-fi epic."There is a web link to Alien," states Fassbender. "You will discover creatures within it that you'll recognise..."The appearance that EWhave released towards the web looks, well, very oddly photoshopped, while using lights across the characters' suits delivering a perfect light-shade for your retouching that seems to own gone on.But, that is not important. Media orgs protest NYPD raid
Occupy Wall Street protesters talk with Gotham police on Nov. 15.
The NYPD's enforced media blackout of its raid on protesters in Zuccotti Park last week is already having consequences for the department: On Monday, some 13 news orgs, including local ABC, NBC and CBS affiliates, demanded a meeting with police commissioner Ray Kelly, the architect of the operation, and his spokesman, Paul. J. Browne. The coverage of Occupy Wall Street has changed drastically in the last few days; before the crackdown, stories on the park included coverage of internecine squabbling and alleged criminal activity among the protesters, as well as a comedy seg on "The Daily Show" about the class division between homeless people and moneyed liberals. Now, stories leading the news include reports of a Seattle woman's miscarriage following an alleged assault by a Seattle PD officer, an op-ed in the Times about the journalist beatings and detentions, and a post on Manhattan gossip/news blog Gawker trumpeting references to the NYPD by the embattled authoritarian regime in Egypt. The NYPD has remained almost entirely silent on the subject of excessive force, except to tell Times columnist Michael Powell that there had been "no change in policy," which Powell stopped short of calling an outright lie. The NYPD appeared to be on something of a charm offensive on Monday; department-friendly tabloid the NY Post ran a front-page story on the foiling of a Dominican "al Qaeda-inspired" would-be bomber caught by police before he could hurt anyone, with a follow-up on Tuesday. Also Tuesday, the NYPD released a report saying that police had shot a record few citizens in 2010 (eight). By Tuesday evening, many outlets had turned their attention to the arrival of OWS protesters in D.C. after a two-week march from Gotham to the nation's capital. The letter to authorities was written by NY Times veep and assistant general counsel George Freeman and signed by reps for (among others) the Associated Press, competing tabloids the Daily News and the NY Post, Reuters, Dow Jones (which owns the Wall Street Journal), and WABC, WNBC and WCBS. WCBS was instructed by the NYPD not to cover the raid from its news chopper during the Nov. 15 showdown. The letter criticized Kelly and Browne for their inaction, saying that the OWS protests were the latest in a string of incidents in which NYPD officers demonstrated a lack of respect for media and their rights and citing communication with the department on the topic as far back as August, when the department asked for written reports of bad behavior. "Despite three follow-up letters, there has been no action on your part -- not even the courtesy of a reply," Freeman said. Several violent incidents are recounted in the letter. The complaints jibe with numerous accounts of hostile encounters with the police at Occupy Wall Street protests, as well as rough handling of protesters witnessed by journalists for dozens of outlets, including this one. The NYPD has not yet favored complainants with a response. Contact Sam Thielman at sam.thielman@variety.com

Hollywood actors, better start practicing your best moon walk and memorizing the "Thriller" dance. Showblitz is reporting that Michael Jackson's estate is shopping the idea for a biopic for the late pop star around Hollywood. Apparently Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock's production company has been approached about potentially producing the project. Apparently the pic would only cover certain periods of Jackson's life (read: some Neverland controversies may never be told). Now it's time for the speculation for who should play the King of Pop to begin! Check out the rest of today's film news after the jump! First Photos Of "Imogene" Hit The Web Kristen Wiig has long been working on her passion project, the dark comedy "Imogene." At long last, the first images of the film have finally hit the web. ComingSoon.net (via First Showing) has the photos, which includes a peek at Wiig, Annette Benning, Matt Dillon and Darren Criss. The film follows Wiig as a NY playwright who fakes her death to get the attention of her ex-boyfriend (Dillon). Instead, she ends up being forced to move in with her gambling-addicted mother (Benning). Steven Spielberg Eying "Gods And Kings" After tackling animation, the story of Abraham Lincoln and a hit Broadway play, Steven Spielberg is now contemplating adapting the story of Moses. Twitch has learned that Spielberg and Warner Bros have entered into formal talks for him to direct their film "Gods and Kings." It will take an epic look at full life story of biblical figure, Moses. Chances are the film would start filming in early 2013, if Spielberg officially signs on to it. Bill Nighy For "I, Frankenstein" Villain? Stuart Beattie's modern-day take on Mary Shelley's classic horror novel "Frankenstein" might be gaining a pretty prestigious villain. Variety is reporting that Bill Nighy is in talks to play "I, Frankenstein's" baddie, a demon prince, while Australian actor Socratis Otto has been brought on to star as one of the prince's evil henchmen. Aaron Eckhart stars as Adam, Dr. Frankenstein's monster who is being hunted by demons so they can learn the secret of his creation and create their own army of reanimated corpses. David Fincher's "Cleopatra" Gets A Screenwriter It's taken very long to get a Cleopatra biopic to the big screen, but it seems like David Fincher's attempt is making good headway. Variety reports that screenwriter Eric Roth has entered discussions to draft the script for the adaptation of Stacy Schiff's biography "Cleopatra: A Life." Roth is best known as the writer for "A Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (which was directed by Fincher) and this Christmas's "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." First Images From "Butter" Hit The Web So what if Jim Field Smith's "Butter" only got meh reviews when it premiered at Telluride earlier this year? The political satire, which features Jennifer Garner as a Sarah Palin-esque public figure competing a bit too intensely in Iowa's annual butter-sculpting competition, has plenty of aspects for fans to get excited for, including (but not limited to) a sex scene between Olivia Wilde and "Twilight's" Ashley Greene. /Film has a whole bunch of new pictures from the film, and says we can expect a trailer (finally) in another month or two. "Butter" hits theaters on March 26, 2012. Tell us your thoughts on today's Dailies in the comments section below or on Twitter!

Adventures in Plymptoons!
An In My Opinion production. Created by Alexia Anastasio. Executive producers, Anastasio, Edward A. Anastasio, Katy Anastasio, Ken Mora, Mark Steiner. Directed by Alexia Anastasio. With: Bill Plympton, Terry Gilliam, Erectile dysfunction Begley Junior., Ron Jeremy, Keith Carradine, Marilyn Zornado, Maureen McElheron, Jerry Beck, John Anderson Geoffrey Gilmore, David Silverman, Jay O. Sanders, Jonathan Caouette, Rob Bakshi, Will Vinton, Strange Al Yankovic, Matthew Modine, Martha Plimpton, Moby, Tom Kenny."Adventures in Plymptoons!" pays tribute to Oscar-nominated animator Bill Plympton, greatly within the type of their own gleefully impudent work. Full of clips and interviews with celebrity fans and co-workers, Alexia Anastasio's documentary could attract exactly the same small but loyal niche audience the topic themself has lengthy won via self-distribution to theaters and home formats. Using art from an earlier age to draw in women, the Or native began his professional existence drawing scatological pictures for Al Goldstein's "Screw" along with other skin magazines -- in addition to more legit guides -- within the freewheeling '70s. Early short "The FaceInch snapped up Oscar attention, stunning Plympton (and composer-singer Maureen McElheron). It established his usual ultra-low-tech, hands-attracted-pencil style and fondness for inventive, frequently disgusting physical grotesquerie. His work grew to become a fixture of MTV station-break spots and packages like "Spike & Mike's Festival of Animation."
Always resourcefully independent -- he once switched lower a $a million offer from Disney to keep complete charge of his work -- the cartoonist joined features with 1992's "The Tune." He's made five more since (including one compilation), all produced inhouse at his barely staffed NY studio, which handles marketing/distribution chores too. It is a remarkably prolific output inside a typically painstaking medium, supporting one colleague's declare that he's "the quickest animator in the industry.Inch Some might argue less could be more, as Plympton's features pay scant focus on such niceties as plot and character development they are virtually lengthy strings of gags, most of the gross-out type. (A critic here who damns a lot "twisted" violent and sexual imagery as "just a lot of ugliness" is actually Plympton themself, disguised as pretentious alter ego W.P. Murton.) "Adventure's" format of short-designed sections that mingle excerpts (including newer and more effective material) with behind-the-moments glimpses and interviews is a perfect showcase for which can induce viewer fatigue over an unbroken 70- or 80-minute haul. Individuals talking about his work -- sometimes tongue firmly grown in oral cavity -- vary from fellow artists (such as the similar-minded Rob Bakshi), studio staff and voice talents to fans, family people and ex-female friends. Like its subject, the docu turns its slim means into a benefit using a cheekily assertive DIY aesthetic.Camera (color), Kevin Sean Michaels editors, Anastasio, Michaels music, Bruce Balmer, Hank Bones, Parson Brown, Didier Carmier, Keith Carradine, Corey Jackson, Maureen McElheron, Smokey Miles, Nicole Renaud, David Silverman. New 'Hugo' Poster: Asa Butterfield Meets Harold Lloyd [Moviefone Exclusive]
The brand new version of 'The Three Musketeers' might be the very first screen iteration from the 17th Century epic which includes flamethrowers, a number of airships, along with a Milady p Winter who bungee jumps and it has ninja-like weapons abilities. It is also in three dimensional. Apart from that, however, Paul W.S. Anderson's undertake the Alexandre Dumas classic is treading on awfully familiar ground. Since 1903, the storyline continues to be shot a large number of occasions, and not simply in France or Hollywood, but additionally in Mexico, Italia, the Ussr, Argentina, Egypt and Iran. You will find a minumum of one porno version. Therefore the 2011 film will need to fill some pretty large boots whether it really wants to join this list, which traces 'The Three Musketeers' through a number of its most memorable screen incarnations. 'The Three Musketeers' (2011) - Trailer No. 2 &bull 1921: This quiet version was not even close to the first (you will find four or five previous efforts), however it was the first one to have a star from the quality of Douglas Fairbanks, the premier swashbuckler from the quiet era. His D'Artagnan is not as memorable as his Zorro or Crook of Baghdad, but he's still an enjoyable experience. &bull 1933: John Wayne's version is known as 'The Three Musketeers,' but it is a modernization that's virtually unrecognizable being an update from the Dumas tale. The heroes are pilots fighting swarthy villains within an Arabian desert. Wayne appears like he'd prefer to be on the equine. &bull 1935: Walter Abel plays D'Artagnan inside a version generally considered lackluster, climax obvious the 1948 version required lots of inspiration in the film. Additionally, it required Ian Keith, who plays Richelieu henchman Rochefort both in movies. &bull 1939: For whatever reason, this musical comedy version is easily the most fondly appreciated 'Three Musketeers' of Hollywood's golden era. Don Ameche plays it straight as D'Artagnan, however the three veteran musketeers are performed through the Ritz Siblings. Future 'Titanic' star Gloria Stuart is available as Full Anne (strangely enough, her line is named). Allan Dwan, director of countless Fairbanks adventures, runs a handsome, lavish production. &bull 1948: Gene Kelly has all of the athleticism needed of the cocky, youthful D'Artagnan, and Vincent Cost creates a enchantingly evil Richelieu. (And yep, that's Angela Lansbury as Full Anne.) Kelly's swordfighting footage will get used again 3 years later within the opening sequence of 'Singin' while it is raining.A &bull 1952: A follow up known as 'At Sword's Point' features the grown kids of the musketeers. Cornel Wilde is D'Artagnan's boy, future 'Gilligan's Island' skipper Alan Hale Junior. may be the boy of Porthos (obviously). Inside a modern touch, Athos's daughter is fiery Maureen O'Hara, who proves just like skilled having a sword because the men. &bull 1973: This version is usually considered the very best, thanks largely to Richard Lester's typically antic direction, an imaginative script by George MacDonald Fraser (author from the Flashman books), as well as an outstanding cast. Michael You are able to is really a bumbling youthful D'Artagnan, the irrepressible Oliver Reed is Athos, a dashing Richard Chamberlain is Aramis, along with a wry Frank Finlay is Porthos. Raquel Welch is remarkably funny within the ingenue role as Constance. As well as for hissable villains, you cannot fare better than Faye Dunaway as Milady p Winter, Congressman Christopher Lee as Rochefort, and Charlton Heston as Richelieu. Raucous and lively, it created two sequels, getting back Lester, Fraser, and the majority of the same cast: 1974's 'The Four Musketeers' and 1989's 'The Return from the Musketeers.' &bull 1993: Produced by Disney, this not-bad version features an unlikely cast of musketeers: Chris O'Donnell (D'Artagnan), Charlie Sheen (Aramis), Kiefer Sutherland (Athos) and Oliver Platt (Porthos). One of the villains, Rebecca P Mornay may be the standout Tim Curry ought to be getting much more fun as Richelieu. The swordfighting is nice, the humor excessively broad, the dialogue anachronistically contemporary. Still, it's fun to look at Platt amusing themself or Sutherland brooding just like a rapier-carrying Jack Bauer. &bull 2001: It's known as 'The Musketeer' and centers mainly on D'Artagnan, though all appear a minimum of briefly, as performed by relative no-title stars. (Star Justin Chambers eventually made good on TV's 'Grey's Anatomy.') Because the full, the legendary Catherine Deneuve gives the development more class, dignity, and French-ness of computer warrants. Peter Hyams' movie is available mostly as any excuses for stunts and action set pieces it's notable because the first Musketeers movie to make use of 'Matrix'-style wire fu. For the reason that, it most likely presages this year's Paul W.S. Anderson version. Follow Moviefone on Twitter Like Moviefone on Facebook Follow Gary Susman on Twitter @garysusman RELATED

Functioning as a "full-service studio" is a mantra among the larger shops these days.Bob Greenblatt made it clear from the start of his tenure as NBC Entertainment chairman that he would expand the scope of the Peacock's network production well beyond NBC.He made good on that promise by recruiting the highly regarded Bela Bajaria from CBS to run the unit. She set up two hot comedy prospects at ABC and a drama at the Eye before she hit her one-month anniversary on the job. (Thankfully, Greenblatt also retired the studio's sterile-sounding Universal Media Studios moniker and returned to classic form with Universal Television.) ABC Studios earlier this month set up a comedy and a drama at NBC, among other outside projects. CBS TV Studios now counts NBCUniversal as a customer after landing a series order from USA Network for buddy dramedy "Common Law,'' from producer Jon Turteltaub.Perhaps the most unexpected burst of sales in the past few months has come from Universal Cable Prods., the NBCU cable studio formed in 2008 after Bonnie Hammer carved her own production infrastructure. UCP has not only nabbed series orders from non-NBCU outlets (Lifetime's "Against the Wall,'' MTV's upcoming "I Just Want My Pants Back'') but has a half-dozen comedy and drama scripts spread among Fox, ABC and CBS, plus projects for NBC proper. What gives? Why the change in the vertically integrated mindset that set in after last rites were read for the fin-syn rule (if you were born after 1985, look it up) in the mid-1990s?Beth Roberts, chief operating officer of UCP and exec veep of biz affairs for NBCU Cable Entertainment, thinks the push to build a more diverse portfolio of buyers is a natural evolution for network-affiliated studios. It took time for execs who were focused on running networks to understand the "different rhythms" of the studio business, she says. "The life cycle of a show's revenue streams are very different for a network and a studio,'' says Roberts, who was a top biz-affairs exec at the Peacock before shifting to the cable side. "The studios take the long-tail perspective. Your goal is to build a library of assets that are going to continue to pay out year after year."Where networks treat shows on a balance sheet as an immediate cost, studios treat them as an investment. The goal is to build a robust pipeline of shows that sell around the world and play on forever in reruns. Call it the "I Love Lucy'' standard."You need to feed that pipeline with whatever content you can, which means you need to go to as many buyers as you can," says Roberts. Other industry execs say that the need to make the most of a studio's roster of creative talent deals provides incentive to shop around. There are only so many slots that an affiliated network has to fill in a given season, and it pays for studios to keep their talent working. For years, doing an overall deal (for those lucky enough to command one) with NBC, ABC Studios or CBS TV Studios has come with the understanding that their development would be laser-focused on one network. (Twentieth Century Fox TV, of course, has been on the full-service course for many moons.)The silo mentality isn't going to disappear overnight, but the Glasnost effect demonstrated over the past year or so is an intriguing shift. There's also a certain validation for a young effort like UCP, which is run by an exec quartet comprised of Roberts, USA Network prexy Jeff Wachtel, Syfy original content prexy Mark Stern and Jerry DiCanio, production topper for UCP and Universal TV."When your mom tells you you're great, it makes you feel good," Roberts says. "When an outsider tells you you're great, then you know it's true." Contact Cynthia Littleton at cynthia.littleton@variety.com

As Been sent on television: Matt's Week in Review
Amy Poehler and Adam Scott Hey, network TV, works out we type of skipped you within the lengthy, reality-clogged summer time. You demonstrated support, therefore we did, too. Some bleary-eyed musing to follow along with. Beginning using the Surprise each week, through which I am talking about the solid but hardly spectacular early amounts for Fox's mega-over-blown The X Factor, opening to around half the company The American Idol Show typically instructions. I think about this a punishment for Simon Cowell's ghastly America's Got Talent, which this season compensated another soon-to-be-forgotten singer. Blech. To become fair, by every other standards, X is definitely an instant success, and puts Fox right into a competitive position on two in the past tough nights. But regardless of Fox's spin, anticipation were much greater, also it works out that the commitment of a Simon-and-Paula reunion can't convince the public to invest two whole hrs a evening glued for an overproduced singing spectacle. A minimum of avoid the lure of a lot of great coming back faves to look at (like Modern Family and also the Large Bang Theory, one of the network tentpoles telling us from the sustained energy of classic TV comedy). Nevertheless, The X Factor is extremely clever entertainment, shamelessly (and frequently effectively) tricky, particularly in individuals moments whenever a true talent emerges as well as their world is rocked through the deafening ovation in the arena audience. But because of the very public character of those auditions, the invasion from the periodic wack job (together with a goon who dropped trou along with a bitchy idiot who sparred forever with Simon) appears much more contrived, unnecessary and annoying of computer does on Idol. Knowing the idol judges: The opinionated, impassioned L.A. Reid is really a find, challenging Cowell for that sharpest critiques around the panel. Paula and Nicole? Wish they'd because of the cool Cheryl Cole much more of an opportunity. The actual test of whether this show features its own "X Factor" is going to be once the area is simplified and also the actual competition takes over. (Performance shows start November. 2, and extremely, the finale is presently scheduled for 12 ,. 22, 72 hours before Christmas. I'm not sure in regards to you, but I have got other activities on my small mind around then. Such hubris.) Want more Fall TV News? Sign up for TV Guide Magazine now! The Final LAUGH: Would go to network TV comedy, which in fact had an excellent week, beginning using the staggering amounts for that refurbished 2 . 5 Males (see my review here) and incredibly solid returns for brand new comedies 2 Broke Women, my own fave Fox's New Girl (lifting Raising Hope), ABC's Wednesday comedies, and Large Bang Theory amongst others. For my evening-by-evening previews from the week's new series and fall lineups, click here). And today, cuing the highlights: "It's my first and finest pageant ever!" - Melissa McCarthy, with tiara and roses associated her surprise Emmy win, capping my absolute favorite moment in the Emmys, when best wishes comedy actress nominees required happens, holding hands inside a Miss America sendup (designed by Amy Poehler). During my Emmy review, I observe that it had been the those who win who made the evening memorable, not the clumsily created show. I uphold that opinion. Still glowing within the wins for Friday Evening Lights, Kyle Chandler, Margo Martindale, Peter Dinklage, Ty Burrell, Downton Abbey amongst others. "Get rid of the baby." - Lily talks! The Current Family infant has graduated to toddler (with Aubrey Anderson-Emmons now presuming the role), and she's a mouthy handful, in amusing lockstep using the relaxation of her dysfunctional brood. Her rather alarming reaction to the idea of Cam and Mitchell contributing to their household is further emphasized by Lily pushing anybody away who will get too near to "My dad!" Is Cam's coddling the reason for her behavior, or Mitchell's chronic lack of ability to talk about? "Awwwwww ..." Which was us responding towards the very sweet moment in the finish of Parks and Recreation's season opener, as Leslie opens Ben's gift box to locate her own Leslie Knope campaign button. Who stated splitting up was difficult to do? (Although it is.) Speaking Junk: Works out Parks and Rec's eternal fall guy Jerry has something that is similar to 2 . 5 Men's Walden Schmidt (Ashton Kutcher). Both of them are apparently incredibly well endowed. On Parks and Rec, as photos of men's sexual organs begin circulating on mobile phones, Chris (Take advantage of Lowe) has this to express: "A mans testicles are just like the ears from the genital system. They serve an essential function, but they are not too great to check out.Inch Meanwhile, over around the Large Bang Theory, Sheldon is compelled to announce: "For that record, I actually do have genital area." (Leonard had expressed some doubt for the reason that regard.) "They are functional and visually pleasing." But within the next episode, when Amy prompts Sheldon to "hug me where I have never been kissed before," he responds, "You mean like Salt Lake City?" He may as well be considered a eunuch. "Performs this seem like several nonwinners? Seriously?" - Well, yes, Andy, it will. Work announces its new manager, Andy Bernard (Erectile dysfunction Helms), within the most anticlimactic possible way, however, you sense of him because he attempts to raise the spirits from the Dunder Mifflin also-rans (including themself) who were not asked to lunch by inscrutable new Boss Robert California (James Spader). The large boss's passive-aggressive mind games, delivering a previously hormonal Pam ("now I am only a body fat mother") right into a crying jag, aren't what you'd call fun riot. But like Parks, the episode develops to some touching reveal, as Pam finds out Jim's own list, together with her and Cece and also the newborn (who won't be named "Michael Scott") in a single column, and "anything else" within the other. Why again did not they let Jim possess the large office? "This is the great factor about British TV. They provide you with closure." - Oh, Britta, you're really "human tennis elbow" (Troy's words). In Community, as Abed freaks out over Cougar Town being shelved till midseason (a sentiment I share), his pals turn him onto Cougarton Abbey, a sendup of Emmy champion Downton Abbey - which differs only for the reason that the whole cast dies of self-caused hemlock for only six episodes. Fortunately, Inspector Spacetime (a spoof of Physician Who) can there be to lift Abed from his catatonia. This comedy truly is the greatest show too couple of are watching. Everything concerning the episode was inspired lunacy, from the opening dream production number ("We are gonna finally be fine") towards the guest shots by John Goodman because the dean's new enemy and Michael K. Williams justifiably cheered because the ex-disadvantage biology prof. "Even just in the forest, we are the weakest people." - Axl Heck. Because the family goes camping with an hourlong opener from the Middle (too lengthy but mostly funny), Axl eventually ends up putting on cereal boxes for footwear, and Poor Sue will get her first period before a bear to get the household's scent. This show more often than not hits home sooner or later with this lapsed Hoosier, which week the "aha" moment came as Frankie pulls out a game composed of odds and ends and mashed-up rules from all the games imaginable ("I simply sunk your Yahtzee!"). This is my mother's worst nightmare, so obviously I chuckled. "You are not implementing me before Betty Whitened!" - Cloris Leachman's Maw-Maw, battling a crow on Raising Hope because the relaxation from the family views using Gilligan's Island tactics to knock musical talent back to one-time prodigy Jimmy. Day-care doofus Shelley's impromptu theme song for Hope is really a giddy homage towards the late Sherwood Schwartz (of Gilligan's and Brady Bunch fame), who's symbolized with a hat on the chair as Shelley takes note of how "he accustomed to start every day having a song that perfectly recapped what happening.Inch TV can use more theme tunes (that is one more reason to like New Girl's Jess, who has one playing in her own dizzy brain). "Salud!" - So starts the Cliffhanger each week, on Breaking Bad, as Gus toasts the cartel kingpin Don Eladio with poisoned liquor, getting the whole Mexican crew in a single fell swoop as Jesse watches in horror. (Gus, always a stickler for particulars, ingested an herbal viagra earlier to reduce the poison's effects.) Clients are business - the don's words returning to bite him - as Gus clutches his stomach and announces to the children, "You've got no one left to battle for. Fight me and die!" Within the getaway, Mike requires a bullet and Gus remains writhing in discomfort. Once more, we have seen Jesse shooting to kill, and also the shock-cut editing drives home how terrifying to him, because he will get driving and high-tails it to another episode. That We guarantee is evenly as intense as that one. Such a season. "Red-colored John continues to be alive." - Not quite a large surprise. Where would The Mentalist do without this all pervading MacGuffin? The guy Patrick Jane wiped out in last season's finale (Bradley Whitford) is really a theif without a doubt - he and the creepy wife were keeping military services weapons girl prisoner within their hidden basement boudoir - but this complete incident works out to become a trick through the master villain to frame Jane for murder. Does not work, obviously, because adjusting a jury into thinking he'd wiped out genuine is child's play for Jane, who argues by himself defense: "I've the authority to get rid of the guy who wiped out my loved ones.Inch At some point that may really happen. You Cannot Stop the Beat - Loved Glee by using this Hairspray show-stopper because the season premiere's climactic song choice, a shout-to Matthew Morrison's pre-Glee career because the original Broadway Linc. But tend to the relaxation from the episode's music happen to be more random - "It Isn't Unusual" introducing Blaine to his new school? - or even the amounts less germane towards the story? Maybe after they start concentrating on the college musical West Side Story ("Would be that the one using the felines?" Brittany miracles), things will settle lower. In a few days already sounds more promising, having a "boot camping" and also the return of Idina Menzel. "You'd stop my leg for me personally, wouldn't you?" - Oh Owen, you romantic, you! With emergency amputation like a Grey's Anatomy metaphor, Dr. Search comes with an epiphany about his wife's have a problem with her undesirable pregnancy, bolstered by Meredith's speech about getting been "elevated with a Cristina." So he stands by his lady, making her cry (and Sandra Oh could make us cry), and he's together with her as she experiences the process. Meredith and Derek lose their baby Zola, though only temporarily - the social worker could tell there is trouble in paradise - but a minimum of Meredith has her job back, because of the main falling on his sword and covering on her, since she did what she did for his wife. Meanwhile, how's April still chief resident after almost delivering the incorrect patient to some splenectomy? And lastly, who's next to take Dwts? Nancy Sophistication might not be "the youngest or even the lovliest or even the skinniest" (her words), but my money's around the robot Italian interloper Elisabetta Canalis, who's merely a star (or celebrity) by association. Which barely describes the charisma-free Take advantage of Kardashian's presence, arrived at think about it. The time is ticking. Stay updated, since the fall rollout continues in a few days, with Fox's Terra Nova, ABC's Suburgatory and also the return of BBC America's riveting (and Emmy-nominated) thriller Luther. We are just getting began. Sign up for TV Guide Magazine now!

Cagliostro - Til Schweiger
D'Artagnan's Father - Dexter Fletcher
D'Artagnan's Mother - Jane PerryWith its airborne CGI galleons, three dimensional format as well as an armed Milady who hides rappelling equipment beneath her corset, helmer Paul W. S. Anderson's version of "The 3 Musketeers" is an extremely 2011 undertake Alexandre Dumas' classic that feels strangely dated already. Although adequately entertaining because of lavish production values and game supporting perfs, this anodyne adaptation lacks a killer hook that will help it to mix to a demographic beyond action buffs and fans. Canny calendar positioning should help Summit's October release Stateside, however the pic will swash more buckle overseas, in which the title has more cachet. Already open in Germany, "Musketeers" screens Sept. 23 in the San Sebastian Film Festival. Much less sometime ago, it looked as if this American-German-French-British co-production could be 1 of 2 new three dimensional adaptations of "Three Musketeers" this season, alongside Warner Bros.' Doug Liman-helmed version. Regardless of the reasons that project was placed on hold, one can't help but question if there may have been well-founded doubts about how exactly well Dumas' 17th century-set tale of chivalry, camaraderie and courtly intrigue might be remixed for contempo auds without watering down it beyond all recognition. Indeed, the script here struggles to locate a balance between your sensibilities of Alex Litvak, most widely known for writing "Grayskull" and "Potential predators," and Andrew Davies, who built his repetition on tony literary adaptations for British TV for example "Pride and Prejudice" (1995) and "Little Dorrit" (2008). Finish product lacks Davies' signature verbal sparkle Davies, but additionally sags in the centre, the way in which a mainstream action film should not, if this bogs lower in most the company concerning the Queen's purloined necklace (ironically, the part nearest to Dumas' novel). The outlet sequence provides a typical illustration of what lengths beyond Dumas the filmmakers are prepared to go, because the Musketeers, soldiers within the employ of France's King Louis (Freddie Fox), are introduced on the secret pursuit to Venice to snatch plans attracted up by Leonardo Da Vinci to have an airship. Joining leader Athos (Matthew Macfadyen), enigmatic ex-priest Aramis (Luke Evans) and jovial muscleman Porthos (Ray Stevenson) about this mission is the one and only Milady p Winter herself (Milla Jovovich, Anderson's regular muse), not only a good looks along with a cunning mind, but additionally a dab hands having a sword along with a roundhouse kick. Regrettably, Milady betrays them, as she's privately in cahoots with Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz, good but somewhat lazily cast up to now another smooth villain). This leaves Athos particularly embittered when youthful, idealistic, Attacking Young Boys-haired upstart D'Artagnan (Logan Lerman) comes to Paris sometime later in the stays, keen to become Musketeer themself. Richard Lester's "Three Musketeers" (1973) and "Four Musketeers" (1974) made their very own significant departures in the books, as virtually every film version has, however they were built with a bawdy streak that's particularly missing within this very teen-skewed PG-13 version. Louis, for instance, is really a moon-faced kid essentially struggling with a crush by himself wife (Juno Temple, a delight as always), while D'Artagnan gives him brotherly dating advice. Orlando Blossom plays the Duke of Buckingham just like a rival jock from another school, sneering over Louis' out-of-fashion poor performers. To have an action film, there's a great deal of foppish discussion about clothes happening. But what glorious clothes they're. Pierre-Yves Gayraud's exquisitely detailed clothes steal scene after scene, particularly the women's gowns, all intricate silk brocades shot through with metallic threads and glinting like jewels. Glen MacPherson's digital lensing continues to be balanced in publish in a way to allow the electrical blues around the king's guards' uniforms pop just a little more intensely, particularly in the numerous vibrant, sunlit rooms (a mixture of Bavarian locations and sets at Berlin's Studio Babelsberg) used for that structure moments. Using three dimensional rather limits the fluidity from the action sequences, which needs to be Anderson's strong suit, however it does only favors for Paul Denham Austerberry's rococo production design.Camera (color, widescreen, HD, three dimensional), Glen MacPherson editor, Alexander Berner music, Paul Haslinger music administrators, Christoph Becker, Pia Hofmann production designer, Paul Denham Austerberry supervisory art director, Nigel Churcher, art company directors, David Scheunemann, Hucky Hornberger set decorator, Philippe Turlure costume designer, Pierre-Yves Gayraud seem (Dolby Digital), Roland Winke supervisory seem editor, Stefan Busch re-recording mixers, Michael Kranz, Andrew Stirk effects supervisor, Acid reflux Feuchter effects, Die Nefzers visual effects supervisor, Bennis Berardi visual effects, Mr. X fight choreographer, Nick Powell stunt planners, Powell, Volkhart Aficionado stereographer, John Harper line producer, Silvia Tollman assistant director, Jamie Christopher second unit director, Nick Powell second unit camera, Vern Nobles casting, Suzanne M.
